UAE nationals and residents now able to access healthcare in Italy

UAE nationals and residents travelling to Italy can now access specialist healthcare services, after an instrumental agreement was signed between GMS, Milan-based Humanitas Hospitals, and The National Insurance Company – Daman.

The agreement between means that UAE nationals and residents with eligible international insurance can use their Daman insurance plan to access healthcare at the world-renowned Humanitas Hospital.

Humanitas Hospital, which has been lauded by the Harvard Business Review as one of the top four hospitals in the world, boasts a 727-bed facility offering state-of-the-art orthopedic, oncology, neurosurgery and cardiac surgery services.

Those treated at the hospital will also benefit from the expertise of Humanitas’ research centre and international private university.

Several highly qualified teams from Global Medical Solutions and Zayed Military Hospital visited Humanitas prior to the signing of the agreement and endorsed the capabilities and the facilities’ services.

The move was announced at an event held at the Armed Forces Officers Club on 27 May, which was attended by healthcare CEOs and diplomats from across the region. An exciting program of speeches shed more light on the partnership, which is set to improve already favorable international relations between Italy and UAE.

H.E. Giorgio Starace, Ambassador of Italy stressed that: “Medical tourism is a strategic area in Italy-UAE relationships. It benefits both countries and opens up further opportunities for business and exchanges.”

Dr. Cyril Toma, Chief Executive Officer at Global Medical Solutions, said: “This development is fully aligned with the vision of the UAE leadership to provide outstanding healthcare to Emiratis and UAE residents. It is also good news for the increasing number of people travelling to Milan from UAE.

“A positive era of international relations between UAE and Italy has yielded a partnership between Etihad Airways and Alitalia Airlines, which have seen more flights scheduled between Abu Dhabi and Milan. The mutual collaboration has further culminated with Dubai being Milan’s successor as the host of the 2020 Expo following Milan.”
